1. In my particular instance, I can speak normally with a trach capped. No one would even know I have a trach unless I told them.
2. No problems with showers or baths. However, I have not tried hot tubs or swimming; immersing myself in water over knee deep would be totally unthinkable.

A tracheostomy is not for everyone. I did nose jobs, UPPP, and CPAP for two years before getting the trach. All options need to be considered under the guidance of qualified professionals. Second and even third opinions may be required. However,I have had a trach since 1984. My only regret was in not getting it done sooner.
