Bryan, I had the same problem after my UPPP sugery (two weeks ago). For the first nine days afterwards were the worst. But as soon as I was able to drink water (on the tenth day) my pain drastically decreased and I went off the painkillers. Even though it hurts keep in mind that it is important to keep the throat moist, so the more water the better.
