Matt, I have only had a trach a very short time myself, however, I needed one for a few years. The fear of getting a trach has for the most part messed up my health overall. But take it from the biggest sissy in the world, DO IT, if you need a trach don't put it off. Care and cleaning is really nothing. My contacts are much more trouble. And yes, you will sound just like you did before, maybe better! I often think now, what was the big deal!
