how about Chloraseptic? It's the green (or red) sore throat spray and it can come as non-alchoholic, child version, or maximum strength adult version but with the alchohol. I probably wouldn't go with the alchohol one if you have open wounds...

But I gotta be honest with you... I tried the throat spray right after my tonsillectomy, and it made the pain worse! It was like adding fire and lemons and salt, so you may want to spray only a teeny bit to test things out.

Slush and ice packs are a more friendly aid. I'd stick with that.
