Voice Change after Surgery

Posted by kctells on June 27, 2002 at 19:41:21:

I am scheduled for surgery UPPP on July 19th. Frankly I am scared for more reasons than one. I don't like pain.
My brain thinks I can outwit this and lose enough weight and change habbits before this day but I know this is probably not possible. I have severe Aptanea (sp) and use a CPAP but I don't like being a slave to a machine. On the other hand, I don't like pain.
Also in addition to teaching high school, I am a professional Storyteller by trade. I also teach storytelling at high school and college level. I have heard this surgery will change my voice, I like my voice? Has anyone experienced a major voice change as a result of surgery? How bad was it? I am told it is only a risk and my doctor could make no gurantees on my voice. Please help. I appreciate this form and the voice. (quite literally) you have in the form. I want to keep mine.
thanks, Kctells-Kevin
