Hello Amy, I read both of your posts about UPPP. As far as your husband being deployed on the 23rd that should not be a problem. When I had the surgery I had severe pain for 9 days and then all of a sudden I felt better, Thanks be to God. As far as your airway is concerned, the anesthesiologist will most likely put a tube down your throat to breathe for you. I recommend requesting a strong pain reliever from your doctor. A few people have relatively little pain, yet the vast majority have extreme pain as I did. Tylenol 3, hydrocodone and morphine were all worthless for controlling pain for me, the only thing that worked was Percocet. However we are all created differently so maybe hydrocodone may be adequate for you. You may want to sleep in a recliner for the first 10 days or so after surgery to help reduce swelling. You also may want to buy ice pops in advance since you probably will not be able to eat for 9 or 10 days. Even though UPPP in most cases does not work to cure OSAS, some of the benefits are: you may have a reduction in RDI's, also when done in conjunction with base of tongue Somnoplasty there is an 80% cure rate according to the Somnoplasty manufacturer. Also, as you probably realized by now from the message boards, is that most OSAS people require multiple surgeries before they are cured or notice significant improvements in their symptoms. I hope this helped, I will pray for you, stay strong, Jose.
