Amy,
I agree with the things Jose mentioned. As he said, everyone is different, so there are no guarantees of how you'll feel. Since many people post messages early in the recovery process, they can get around somewhat. I felt like I could get around after a few days, but took it easy to play it safe & not to hinder the recovery process. The painkillers (hydrocodone & oxycodone) along with plenty of liquids kept the pain under control for me. I was able to drink lukewarm chicken broth in the first few days & moved on to cream of chicken pretty soon after that. As Jose mentioned, for most people, the first 10 days are the most challenging, so your husband leaving after the day 11 shouldn't be a problem.
My surgery (UP3/septoplasty/tonsillectomy/turbinates) was on May 31 & I don't regret having it done one bit. Ask your doctor questions the same questions that you've posted, keep reading about the different experiences that people have had (many have been good) & try to relax. Remember, everyone who has posted a message has made it through.
