After my sleep study, which showed I have sleep hypopnea (almost, but not quite apnea - instead of stopping breathing, I just drop down to breathing at about 5% of normal), my regular physician referred me to an ENT. The ENT did a regular exam and said my left nasal passage was at least 80% blocked by a deviated septum and my tonsils were about three times larger than they should be. The deviated septum was also confirmed by a visible "crook" in my nose. I actually didn't have any formal tests or x-rays...just a very excellent doctor checking things out. Maybe I was too trusting *shrug*, but it sure worked out.
