Please don't read this as an attempt to 'burst your bubble' as it is as much an attempt to (a) learn myself and (b) educate others too - ok?
I have read and heard and observed two people that I personally know go through the tonsil removal who originally had sleep apnea. In almost all the cases there was immediate success followed by seven months to fourteen months later finding themselves back to square one. I also know of one individual who has now had success for over three years -- I hope you're one of those but the percentage is about .... actually, I forget what the actual number is now but well under 75% but I think over 50%. But most importantly, you can pretty much find out "before" you have the surgery if you get the correct test done and avoid all the truma and pain. There are two test I know of that are very important, they are: (I don't know the medical name) but the scope down the nose (it doesn't hurt at all!) they can then see if the obstruction is your tonsils or your tongue etc. The other test is having a standing x-ray to measure your airway passage.
These (two test above) test are at least important to ask your doctor/ENT about. There may be more but having to go back to CPAP was no fun for my friends. Also, no matter how good your doctors bedside manner, I haven't found a lot of doctors who are really totally up on all this -- which speaks loudly about 'taking charge' of your health.
I certainly hope everything works out ok and it may but I don't think you'll know for sure for about another year . I had thee down the nose looks and all three said it's my tongue and not my tonsils. I guess what happens is that right after the operation everything there is tight and firm and there is more open area. Then with time it gets less firm and it drops some and everything comes into play again or something like that.
But you could easily be part of the lucky 50%+ I certainly hope so but I hope this helps and helps others too. Also, I have no idea how accurate what I put here is, you really really need to check out everything on the internet very good before acting.
