Posted by April on July 05, 2002 at 01:54:28:I am a 28 year old female, I have osa and a host of breathing problems. I was trached in Jan, 2002. I thought, I had gotten over peoples reaction, until yesterday afternoon at the supermarket. I was standing waiting to be checked out, when a little boy about 6 just could not stop looking at my trach. the little boys looks did not bother me, kinda thought it was funny in a way, wondering what must be going through his little head. I have a Jackson trach and keep it open because I breathe best that way, so I have the ties and I also used a trach dressing because I take a med that can sometimes cause me to expell more than the average amount of gook so I expect a look or two. The thing that really ticked me was when I covered my trach with my finger to speak to the cashier and the little boys mother pulled him to her and said, "SEE THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS TO PEOPLE THAT SMOKE", man did that ever tick me off! I have never smoked in my life. It has always been all I coud do just to breathe! How dare she! Having to be trached and learning to live with it has been one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. How dare she! My husband says I am over reacting. I don't think so. Is it wrong to be upset?
