Fast Food.....same day as surgery???

Posted by SleepyAdia on July 05, 2002 at 17:09:06:

Today the surgery center called with the time of my surgery and to answer any questions I might have.

I asked why I am getting pill form instead of liquid pain meds. The nurse said, they want me chewing and eating right away! Regular foods. She said it was old understanding that they used to have liquids and such for a week or two. Now they tell ppl to go to a fast food on the way home and eat something salty like french fries and a hamburger.

She said it will make healing faster and quicker. She said, it is those who do not eat right away that have the probs. She said that u need to keep those muscles in use and to keep the scabs off.

I just don't get it! I cannot see how it could be of benefit. I would think that I would choke or something or break open a suture or something.

Have any of you had an experience like this or know anything about this?

Adia
