You do have a right to be upset. If pointing to my trach would convince someone not to smoke, it would be a small consolation for the fact that I had one in the first place, regardless as to why the trach was required. However, as a youth I met someone confined to an iron lung due to polio and watched others suffer from emphysema. Unfortunately this did not deter me from smoking. Pointing to you as an example as to why not to smoke would not act as a deterrent for a young child.

My trach is completely covered by a shirt and no one even knows I have it. But, every once in awhile, when I see a relatively attractive young person with multiple body piercings, I am very tempted to unbutton my shirt, pull out my Montgomery and say: "Top this one, kid!" Haven't done it yet. Odds are if I did, someone next to me would uncover their colostomy bag.
