I have not heard of a harmonic scalpel but it sure sounds like something that would work wonders (I think I will request that the surgeon use a harmonic scalpel for my next surgery, even though it is Somnoplasty). According to a sales representative from the company that manufactures the Somnoplasty machines, when UPPP is performed with base of tongue Somnoplasty they have had an 80% success rate at curing sleep apnea. I think their statistic is inflated like a GoodYear blimp at a major sporting event. If the doctor has determined via laryngoscope, that the site of obstruction is the tongue area (to include soft palate, tonsils, uvula) then you are likely to reduce your RDI. I have had UPPP done and one treatment with BOT Somnoplasty and Turbinate Somnoplasty. It has helped me somewhat. I'm tired I have to go, XXXtra Large
