Thanks for all the information, it really helps. Have one other question. Did any of you have trouble convincing the doctor that the trach was appropriate? Have excellant surgeon, but he thinks "must be 300-500 lbs, bedbound, and unable to stay awake at all". This is getting to be a real battle trying to get him to do this. My family doc finally talked him into it. And the surgery is scheduled for the 17th. My RDI is 60 per hour with O2 sat in high seventies. That is after having had the UP3 surgery, before RDI was 80 some, and O2 was in low 70's. The apnea has caused pulmonary hypertension which makes life more difficult (shortness of breath, MORE fatigue, severe swelling of the legs, etc.) Do you think that I am rushing into the trach or did you have trouble convincing the doctors that the CPAP was NOT working for you? I was diagnosed over a year ago, and have fought with CPAP since then. The UP3 surgery didn't improve me enough so I still needed the CPAP. I can't work, can't go anywhere, I have no life at all. Supposedly if my apnea is resolved then my pulmonary/cardiac problems should go away.

Would love to hear your input on this. I don't have net access at home, so it takes me awhile to get back and check the responses but I will get back!

Thanks again for all the information!
