19-year-old w/ high CPAP pressure

Posted by sleepymk on August 06, 2002 at 20:15:16:

As the subject notes, I'm a 19-year-old male, fairly thin, and don't snore.

I use CPAP at a pressure of 13 right now, but only because air starts leaking out the corner of my left eye at higher pressures. My last sleep test (I've had 3 in the last 6 months) noted a pressure of 16 would be needed to supress all hypopneas.

It's likely I'll be switching equipment to a Bi-PAP or getting some sort of surgery to at least reduce the pressure needed. I'm told the pressure will only go up from here, and given I'm only 19 I don't know if I want to sleep with climbing high pressures for the rest of my life.

Additionally, I haven't been seeing a lot of improvement from CPAP, but it's also unclear whether I'm really getting the full benefit.

Thoughts?
