Somnoplasty is about the least invasive thing you can get done. For me, there was minimal pain that was controlled with tylenol. I was able to eat and drink normally after about 4 hours.

On moving the tongue, you may be refering to genioglossus advancement. This can be done in two ways, one is with a few sutures to pull the tongue up closer to the front; the other is by cutting a "window" through the front of the jaw beneath the front teeth, pulling the tendons that hold the middle and back of the tongue through then putting the window back. I had the second version done and it is not as bad as it sounds. The nerves are severed and by the time they regen, you are healed. I use minimal pain meds, 8 out of the 40 percosets. Both helped a little, my RDI dropped about about 23%.
