Yeah, well, I guess it comes down to which doctor you ask.... Midline glossectomy is actually included in the Phase I protocol at Stanford (Powell and Riley - www.sleepsurgery.com/protocol.htm), and medical abstracts I found on this procedure indicates no long term problems with speech or swallowing. As for the MMA, surgeons I've asked said the MMA is a bit more invasive than the midline glossectomy. The MMA cuts into bone while midline glossectomy is soft tissue surgery. (Granted, it's probably THE most invasive soft tissue surgical procedure for apnea since you're cutting into a highly vascular tissue. I also hear it's quite painful.).

At any rate, it would be great if I can also get feedback from people who've had this done firsthand.
