I think the "standard profile" is a thing of the past. I have OSA and of the six people I work with that I know have OSA, four of us are not "typical" build. I am 6' and normally 180 pounds. One guy is about 5'10" and 150 pounds. However, lets get to other things. When I was diagnosed several years ago, the cpap made me feel better for about 2 days then I started feeling worse. I tried nightly for almost 2 years but felt cruddy the entire time. I quit for a while, started back with bipap then autopap but still couldn't sleep or feel better. It was discovered the machine was inducing central apnea. By the time the pressure got high enough to cut the obstructive events down to around 15, he central were up to 45. The size of my tongue, thickness and the length down the throat have been determine to be the cause. I have started the surgical route having had tongue advancement and hyoid suspension. Each have helped dropping my RDI from almost 90 to 40. I have the jaw advancement scheduled for 4/03.
If body mechanics are really the problem, get them fixed but make sure you don't have centrals or other problem.
