Posted by shadoe on March 28, 2003 at 12:17:58:For a refresher: MMA/Genioglossus advancement (mma: 7mm, not 5 like I originally said, GA: 10mm)
Overall, doing much better... Swelling is essentially gone. I still have some in my maxillary sinus area, but again, it's almost gone as well. Breathing is MUCH easier. I have no problem falling asleep now. I am waking up around 3-4 AM to use the bathroom (one of the pitfalls of the liquid diet).
Saw the surgeon today. All looks good. I'm on schedule to have the arch bars taken out this Tuesday at 10:15 AM. I'll get instructions for home "jaw muscle stretching exercises". I think I desperately need these, as I can't (actually don't want to just yet) open my mouth more the 2-3 cm.
I've been living off Campbells chicken and rice soup (slurping, not chewing), and milkshakes. Can't wait for the real stuff next week.
As for my sleeping/energy. I realize that it's much too early to tell the benefits yet, but as I am able to sleep more, I'm starting to have more dreams. They seem more "vivid" than prior to the surgery. Also, I do seem more "relaxed" and want to do more things than I have in the past.
I'm due for xrays to see how much I've advanced in a few weeks. Wish me luck!
Will keep posting my progress.
Dave
