Arch bars out!

Posted by shadoe on April 01, 2003 at 10:57:57:

Got in from the surgeon about an hour ago.

Got put to sleep for about 15 minutes so he could take out the *!?** arch bars. Much improvement after they were out. My lips are all numb now as he had to inject some anesthetic to take 'em out.

I'm surprised that I can open my jaw as much as I can. Don't be discouraged if you can't open them much while the arch bars are on (**message to RKF)

Teeth are a little sensitive...Pressure is uncomfortable when trying to make molars contact.

What can I eat? Okay to start with soft foods like pasta. I can't wait. I'd try right now, but I can't feel my upper lip and when I tried to take a drink of milk, it went all over me.

How am I sleeping. Not dreaming as much now as I was about a week ago. As I posted before, I still have a lot of sinus drainage (bloody mucus) which is causing me to wake. Also, it is still uncomfortable trying to find a good sleeping position when my chin touches the pillow because of the "lack of sensation from the GA"

I can't believe this ordeal is almost over.

RKF: Best of luck this Thursday! You will do great, and try to keep your spirits up.

A note of eating... I recently found that if you take Dinty Moore Beef Stew (yup, the stuff in the can), heat it, blend it...Tastes just like the real stuff. It's easier to get down if you add some extra water to the pot. I'm sure it'll fit in the syringe (which in 5 minutes, I'm about to throw away).

Will keep updating my progress.

Take care.
Dave
