Considering M3, have questions

Posted by Heath on April 03, 2003 at 09:41:55:

Hi everyone, this is my first post on this forum.

I am a 38 year old female who is not overweight. (Well, maybe 10 lbs or so :)

I have a history of really bad sinuses- and have had 5 sinus surgeries over the past 15 years or so.

After my last sinus surgery 2 years ago I started snoring. It has slowly gotten worse, and I'm always tired. My mother-in-law watched a show on sleep apnea, and thought it sounded like me. I contacted my ENT and made an appt. He sent me in for sinus x-rays and a sleep study.

I finished the sleep study last week. After only 3 hours, the technician said I was bad enough that he wanted to try the CPAP machine. (I guess they don't usually do this on visit 1) He was a very experienced tech, and I was his only patient that night. He said I did fairly well on the CPAP.

I have a neighbor who had the whole mess of surgeries including the tongue thing last summer. I went home that night and borrowed his CPAP machine. His setting was a '10' so I started at a '6' and after a few days I'm up to an '8'. I know it's not very scientific, but my ENT appt. isn't until next week!

I think I'm sleeping better- but I HATE IT!! I refuse to be tied to this machine for the rest of my life. I'm very active, I like to camp, travle, etc. and it is a pain in the rear.

I WANT THE SURGERY! A few weeks of pain vs. wearing a mask is worth it to me.

Here are my questions:

1. We're going to a dude ranch for vacation the last week of May. Should I try to have the surgery before then? I DO NOT like the stupid machine.

2. I ride horses competitively. How long until I'll feel like riding again?

3. How much work did you miss for the M3? I don't anticipate much sinus work since they should be in good shape.

4. How much weight did you lose? I count this as a bonus!!

Thanks so much for your response!!!!!
