Posted by cbrico929 on January 26, 2004 at 09:03:55:I had my UPPP Surgery last Tuesday (20 Jan 04) the Dr's did three
different procedures on me (1) Widen my nostrils to breath better (2) Cut
out the uvila and (3) Cut a slit in my neck (right by the adams apple) to
put like a washer ring to widen my wind pipe. I'm on the fifth day of
recovery now and I still haven't been able to sleep more than 2 hours. Is
this normal? It's driving me crazy that I can't fall asleep without waking
up almost every hour? I don't know if it's a mental thing but I do remember
after I got out of surgery I was reaching down by my legs to connect a wire
that unsnapped and somehow when I bent forward the blood rushed into one of
my breathing tubes and I couldn't breath. I couldn't find my panic button
on my bed but after almost falling off the bed from panic the nurses finally
saw me and I was surrounded by all kinds of medical staff to help me breath.
I'm not sure what exactally happen but all I know is I actually saw my life
flash by me. I ended up staying in ICU for three days. I'm not trying to
scare anybody but when your in recovery, let the nurses do everything for
you. I was trying to be to independent. I'm in the military, I'm 5ft 9in
170lbs, very heavy snorer and had a sleep study done with a serve case of
sleep apenea. The reason I took the surgery was because active duty cannot
use CPAP's in the field. Has anybody had this problem in sleeping after
their surgery? Thanks in advance.
