The painkillers never completely eradicate the pain. The most they do is blunt it and take the edge off. You always know there is some soreness there. Like haiving a sore throat from a bad cold. But when they do wear off, the pain is like a rawness and a stabbing that doesn't stop. It's not an ache like from a fierce headache or toothache. It's different. I call it the Jackhammer of Satan. As soon as you feel the painkiller wearing off, it's time for another dose. My doc is not concerned about overdoing it or becoming dependent.
