Posted by Paul on January 29, 2004 at 14:43:02:Which hurts more? The area where the tonsils were, or the uvula/palate?
The reason why I ask is because my ENT said that he would use one of those new coblation devices to remove the tonsils because it operates at a much lower temperature (80c) than the standard electro-cautery equipment (600c). Less burning means less post-op pain.
But he said that the uvula and palette would have to come out the old standard way.
Is there any advantage to using the coblation part for the tonsils? How much of the pain is attributable to the tonsil removal?
Thanks!
