Sleep Apnea Symptoms

Posted by pickle on February 10, 2004 at 16:48:21:

I would like anyone's insight into various symptoms they have experienced with Sleep Apnea. Specifically, I would like any comments on my experiences if anyone can relate.

I was diagnosed (from Sleep Study) with moderate to severe sleep apnea in Nov '03. Borderline severe in my Apnea Index of 30.5 per hour, but told that I was more moderate in the O2 levels only falling to 85%. I am 32yrs old and not overweight. I believe that I have had some of these issues for a few years

I admit that my lifestyle has not been real conducive to good sleep as I am very irregular with my sleep habits and like to drink alcohol 2-3 times a week. And who doesn't end up drinking before bed.

Anyway - I have yet to fall asleep when I did not want to although have felt close on a few occasions. My biggest issues have been what I would have diagnosed as something else such as:

- feeling spacy and out of it
- getting nervous while driving like my mind was going to drift off or turn off more than physically fall asleep
- have developed some level of anxiety when driving at times and just on edge in general.
- have feeling of irregular heart beat
- have felt dizzy or off balance
- couple of times after working out and once when not, have felt as though I would pass out
- most of these symptoms have caused some additional stress and worry, but not just a simple feeling of being tired.
I would almost describe these as related to heart problems and/or neurology (nerves and anxiety).

Has any one else had similar experiences or can add insight?
