Genioglossus Advancement or Not?

Posted by Taomanjin on February 13, 2004 at 09:39:12:

I have serious sleep apnea for a long time and feel desperate. I didn't realize it until last May. And since then I have been fighting it with all my might. I have tried all almost every treatments now. I had three times of sleep study, CT on my sinus, somnoplasty on my turbinate, UPPP surgery (with uvula flapped over instead of cutting), CPAP, oral aplliance, etc.

Now I am facing a decision whether I should go further to have this genioglossus advancement surgery (surgery on your tongue base). If anyone had such a surgery or you heard of some stories about this, please share with me.

My questions are: what's the successful rate of this surgery in curing sleep apnea? What are the main side effects? What is the risk? Thanks for your attention.
