I just had GA last Thursday - piece of cake. Could have gone to work that afternoon (but didn't :). No bleeding either and only needed a couple of pain pills the day of the surgery.
The impact of the surgery was the equivalent to mowing the lawn :)

After one week I went back for another xray and for some reason the proceedure only moved my tongue from 6mm to 8mm opening. I needed 12 to be normal. Still, it has improved, but I need cpap to sleep still.

My apnea is abnormal in that I NEVER go to sleep without cpap period. As soon as I fell asleep my throat would completely close off and I'd awake.

After the surgery I slept 4 nights now without cpap - it's been 3 years since I could say that. But I had some drugs and that must have been helping because now I need cpap.

My guess is that the tounge is most people's breathing problems, not the soft palate. So, the ENTs are gonna have to do something besides just doing UPPP on everyone. I've been to 3 and they all said I should do a UPPP even though my tonsils are tiny and my soft palate is nothing - They just offer what they know how to do. I did have my uvula removed just in case.

Finally, went to a maxillofacial surgern and got a real xray and could SEE the problem - the base of my tongue closed my airway down to 6mm (12+ is normal).

I'm 42, skinny and healthy.

I've posted this twice and each time find out the forum is closed! I'm so sorry it's taken this long to get you a response. This forum is great, but the moderators think we're all Alqaeda or something. Woops, there goes my membership :)
