Posted by Sleepy Time Time on October 05, 2004 at 11:27:57:Well, i used the dental device for the first time last night, and I feel worse today than usual.
Initially, it was not as uncomfortable as I had anticipated -- at least not in terms of the way it actually felt in my mouth. I took an Ambien, which I dont usually do -- I usually use Melatopnin to help me sleep and overcome the discomfort of the Cpap. I figured I might need something a bit more sleep inducing to overcome the discomofrt of having mh jaw thrust forward.
But after laying there for an hour and a half and not falling asleep, I also took a Klonopin, just .5 miligrams. I fell asleep about 30 minutes later and slept for six hours straight, which I almost never do with Cpap. "Good sign," I thought.
I also went to sleep on my back, which i dont usually do -- usually i start on my side, and move to my back after five hours or so.
Anyway, last night, after about six hours, I rolled over onto my side, but could not fall back asleep, so I jut laid there for two more hours. I am much more mentally fatigued and out of it today than usual.
I wonder if maybe sleeping on my back had something to do with it -- since my apnea is worse when I am on my back. (Then again, I WAS wearing the device, which opened my airway up.)
Secondarily, I wodner if Ambien / Klonopin was a bad combo and might be partly responsible for the stupor I am in today. I know Klonopin, as a relaxant, is ordinarly not indicated for apnea, since it relaxes the upper palette, but I figured I'd be okay since I had the device in my mouth, opening my palete.
Does anyone have any thought on either of these theories, or any advice?
