Newbie with Apnea

Posted by Herbiefreddie on March 28, 2005 at 04:45:34:

hi, I am so glad I found these forums. You insight and information is awesome! I am a 37 year old female, 5' 5", 144 lbs. who was just diagnosed with with apnea. I meet with my ENT to go over my sleep study results but he really didn't explain them very well. Could someone help me out? Here's what they say:

Stage I 2.2%
Stage II 54.5%
Stage III 11.8%
Stage IV 7.5%

Arousal Index 20 per hour

19 obstructive apneas
94 obstructive hyponeas
RDI 16.5 per hour and REM RDI 26 per hour

My ENT has recommended the UPPP with sesptoplasty and something else that I can't remember. I meet with the Dr. that read the sleep study next week. My brother has sleep apnea and uses the CPAP and I KNOW there is NO way I could do it. I'm extremely claustrophobic and can't even stand to put a swim mask on my face!

I am so thankful for all of teh postings that I've been able to read. While I very scared to have the surgery I feel it's probably the best step! Any help in understanding the study results would be appreciated!!!

You all are real life savers!!! :-)
