Post-op Turbin/Septo surgery ??'s

Posted by phils95cobra on April 19, 2005 at 18:44:07:

I had the Turbinate/Septoplasty surgery two weeks ago Friday. I had some complications (mostly elevated blood pressure and bleeding), but otherwise am doing ok. I had the packing out 5 days post-op, and the splints out at 8 days post-op. I did have some dissolvable packing in the right side which has also come out on it's own. I have been doing the Saline nasal irrigation every day, 3 times a day, and feel much better now, but would like some input on the full recovery time and post-op recovery issues that some have had. Mostly what I have now is a very limited smelling/tasting ability, and alot of pressure/tightness around the septum. I have very little nasal discharge, but they are quite dry so I supplement Saline nasal spray to help with the dryness.

I can say that I am very concerned about my sense of smell. Will it return? I know no one can guarantee it, but is it normal to partially lose smell after this surgery? How long about before the pressure and tightness might start to subside?

Thanks
