Hey Bill,
Oh yes, I've vetted my facilities and surgeons quite extensively. No one in Seattle does as many;nor has the quality outcomes as the Stanford group.
I can not speak more highly of the service that I received from my Surgeon (Dr. KL) and from the facility. Working in another field in healthcare, I relay this fact with some knowledge of the inner workings of such things.
I can say that the UW does do MMA/GAs. You may not have an attending surgeon do the work though. Further, I was surprised to see many negative comments about that facility from post-MMA patients posted on this and other boards. The nurse-to-patient ratio is also better in Calif (and even better at Stanford and Kaiser) than in Washington. This translates into a better and safer experience post-op (IMHO).
I'm not certain about what being a Research Star means or how it translates to results (I think it means you are a good grant writer). As always, look carefully...
I'm not a Stanford grad, or proponent...I've just paid for a new boat for my surgeon that's all. There are several other excellent surgeons that I've researched out there.
Anyway, good luck,
Bill
