I had the tongue suspension and Hyoid suspension via repose done in Dec 2004. 5 months out from surgery, I would summarize my "side effects" by saying that I still have partial numbness in 3 lower teeth near the tongue suspension scre insertion, some swelling in the region of the Hyoid over the Adams apple, and occaisional pain on swallowing or if I talk to much (some might count that as incentive towards self-improvmeent). Sometimes, if I move my lower jaw sidew to side, I imagine that I can feel the tongue suture tugging a bit on my lower jaw, but it's nothing that I think about during the normal course of a day. Both swelling and any associated pain are usually worse later in the day. All in all, if it helps my sleep, these effects will be tolerable, but right now, the jury is still out. I have a follow up sleep study scheduled for Sunday. I still suffer from daytime sleepiness, fatigue and depression, but can't yet tell wether this is due entirely to Apnea or other complicating factors. I'll post more as I learn more.

Scott
