Question re: Fiber optic Scoping

Can you veterans tell me what is involved with the fiber optic scoping, please? We are trying to decide if we need to stay overnight in Palo Alto after the initial consult which will involved xrays, a fiber optic scoping, and a consultation. Our appt is for 2pm in the afternoon, and we are 5 1/2 hours away from home. We plan on coming the day before the appt, but don't know how uncomfortable or long these procedures are.
