WJ,
Your blogs are great ! I'm glad to see you've done well. You're an inspiration to us all.
Regarding the hospitilization for removal...gawd, wish I'd done that. Let me tell you how it was from an awake perspective. It was like I was in a John Wayne Western. Took a slug of whiskey (narcotic elixir that I hadn't touched at all yet) before I got out of the car (not driving). Then he settled me down, this won't hurt, some pressure here...Urgh, wire being pulled out quickly and swiftly...felt down to the bone. Bloody (due to the gume irritation). Multiply this times eight (like eight barbed arrows pulled out of my jaw). Get back in the horse (er, car) pilgrim.
Heart rate up 30 points. Back to the hotel ...was told I could fly back the same day...knew better.
Although I was fine later that night, it would've been nicer to be sedated. And, for me, the procedure loosened some teeth on my left side...so more liquid diet until they stabilized.
The arch bar removal experience was my only blip in my care that I would've done differently down at Stanford. Dr. P is a wise man.
Bill
