It's a reasonable concern, but my sleep problem was so bad that they could have disfigured me and it wouldn't have mattered.

In fact, I told the doc to sacrafice bite alignment for a wider airway if need be, and he did. I now have an edge-on-edge bite. I'll adapt.

I'm 6 weeks post op MMA and today my wife said that I looked almost normal, and I had a pretty large movement.

There is a slight widening of the nose at the openings. I don't think anyone who knows me has noticed but the MIGHT if I told them to stare closely. This widening was actually an unexpected benefit to my breathing.

Some people have a few months of swelling, and the arch bars add to lip puffyness, but beyond that I would say the facial impact is minimal or slightly positive even for those that have a normal profile.

In summary, MMA does not ruin, or even change much how you look and if you need it to breath right for the rest of your life, it's a no-brainer.
