You mean like chronic occult aspiration ? High acidity of gastric or esophageal fluids can cause vocal cord spasm, reactive airway problems, chronic coughing, etc... Of course more pronounced when lying down. Usual symptomatic treatment includes a proton pump inhibitor to reduce the acid content of the fluid, and some sort of night time inhaler to reduce brochospasm (if any). Rarely a tracheo-esophageal diversion (now that's an operation!) can be done...
Haven't heard of many severe problems caused by post nasal drainage other than short-term transient discomfort.
