On balance, I am pleased with the changes in my appearance.
I had a slightly receding chin and it now looks more "normal." It is certainly not a Jay Leno chin.
The overall shape of my jaw is more well-defined and aesthetically pleasing. However, it's pretty subtle. I only notice it since I knew my "old" face so well.
I was fond of I how I looked too, with the exception of the slightly receding chin. Everyone has stated that I look more handsome and younger since the operation. To me, I look almost identical but better.
For me, a large bonus is that my smile is much more prominent and obvious. I used to think I was smiling due to the stretching of facial muscles, but it would not translate into an external change. Now, a small smile is obvious and a big one is unmistakeable. Somehow, my smile muscles are oriented in a different and better way.
As someone else posted, I did notice that my nose and nostril area flattened a bit. My nostrils are a bit wider. With my jaw forward a bit, my nose is a little less prominent than it used to be.
Typical advancement seems to be about half an inch. That is not a lot in terms of changing appearance. I would not worry too much. Plus, your surgeon may be able to do some computer simulation to give you a better visual idea of what will change.
I think for most, the changes are slight. The good surgeons really know what they are doing both medically and in terms of conventional measures of appearance.
