Posted by Thunder Bay on September 15, 2005 at 13:13:50:I am still tryoing to figure out if my swollen turbs are contributing to my mouth breathing when using Cpap.
I have been on Cpap (Aut pap actually) for about 10 months with no improvement. In fact, I think my light headedness, daytime sleepiness and brain fog are worse since going on Cpap)
Most nights or mornings I wake up with that awful parchd mouth sensation that people say is caused by mouth breahting. I feel this sensation even though I use white athletic tape to tape my mouth shut.
I am contemplating getting the turbinate reduction cos some say that could be causing the mouth breathing. I definitely have sonus congestion, but i am having a hard time understanding how the swollen turbs are related to the mouth breathing and the air escaping. If my turbs are so swollen that the forced Cpap air isnt getting through my nose, how can the air get into the mouth and cause my lips to flap open and the air escape?
Also, I actually can "breathe" better when using Cpap than when I don't, cos of the humified heated air
And if my swollen turbs were preventing the forced air from properly opening my airway, why did my titration study results say that Cpap "corrected" my apnea at certain air pressures?
