I agree, braces suck. I'm coming up on three years, with probably another year to go (due to a perfectionist orthodontist).

The brackets poke into your cheeks until your cheeks finally give up and start growing tough. Before then they will get rubbed very raw. Start using wax NOW.

Brackets are also a food magnet. Everything gets stuck in there first. I joke that I'm lucky, I get to enjoy a meal twice - once when I eat it, and then again when I push all the food out of my braces. If you like spinach like I do, you'll be wearing it a lot :-)

Once you get "used" to this foreign entity in your mouth, then you get to go have them "adjusted." I think this is adapted from some medieval torture techniques. Your tylenol consumption will spike for a few days.

However, there is a good side if you are preparing for MMA surgery. The braces do make it easier for the surgeon to predict and control alignment. Post-surgery, your teeth will not move around much. And finally, when you have been through the long drawn out recovery of MMA with the restricted jaw movement, liquid diet, and dental fixation, braces will seem like nothing!
