Sleepy,
On your side note...moving the maxilla forward reconfigures your nose and some of your sinus structures. That's one reason why you may be having congestion.
Second possibility is that the lymphatics, of what few there are...but they are present above and behind your maxilla, may be slightly altered in their new course. This may aggravate the congested feeling.
Lastly, as for the drainage...this is an odd one so bear with me. I've never, ever heard of this until my spouse brought it up. There is this entity called RSD (reflex sympathetic dystrophy) which is known only to high-exalted-poobah masons and to anethesia pain geeks. When I had lots of clear drainage after eating (especially a few months ago), she swore that I had RSD or a variant of it.
The argument against having it is that more commonly in other parts of the body it also is present with pain, burning, etc... I only had the transient clear drainage. Basically, the sympathetic nerves are cross-wired and over-stimulated. Mostly, it wears off over time. However, the more problematic cases can get a cervical plexus block (long needle in chest...don't ask). Although this works, I'm not totally sold on the fact that I (or you) actually have this because the pain component is missing.
The more I think about it, the more a variant of it in our post-MMA population might be possible. For me the drainage has worn off and I rarely have it. My surgeon listened to her expound on this and called it a "medical zebra" ...which it is...and said it never occured to him ( and I firmly declined the remedy anyway).
Long reply...but you should wait longer than six months. Maybe 9 or 12 to let things stabilize even more.
