I would concur with seattlebill. I also had plans to get all kinds of things done. The problem is, your physical and mental energy will probably be low for a few weeks at least. So, it is hard to focus on anything in particular or carry out a plan.
I am a former professional musician, and I also planned to play. Hardly played guitar at all.
I would encourage you to have some things to do, but don't worry if you can't do them.
The reason I think DVD/movies are so good is due to their passive nature. You can just sit there and get as engaged as you feel, but it doesn't require a lot of concentration.
I also found doing some light computer work - surfing the Net, answering email - to be a good diversion. The key is to be engaged, but not heavily. (Sometimes it would take 15 minutes to read and compose a reply to email...)
I think the guitar thing could work, but I would start learning now, and use the time to PRACTICE. That is more of a "mindless" activity - practicing strums, or chords, or patterns. I would think that trying to learn ANYTHING would be a lost cause. Your mind will just not be up to it.
