Scheduled MMA

Posted by snores-a-lot on December 28, 2005 at 06:22:59:

I am new to the forum but have been lurking for a while. I just scheduled MMA for March. I've been dealing with severe fatigue for 10+ years with a diagnosis of sleep apnea about 18 months ago. I've been through the mill with missed diagnosis like depression (antidepressants had no effect other than side effects) and fibromyalgia. Guess they missed the apnea because I am thin. I have an RDI of 54 and I'm 46 which seems like fairly typical for patients having this surgery (from the literature I've found).

Anyway, CPAP doesn't work well for me. I have a very small lower jaw with poor occlusion. Nasels masks always leak from my mouth due to poor closing even with chin straps and full face masks don't work due to having a chin too small to rest the mask on.

I have settled on a surgeon with a good reputation. Naturally he's out of network, so I am getting ready to do battle with the insurence company. If I do not get satisfaction with them, I'm just going to find the money to pay for it myself rather than waste another year on them.

I will be following up the MMA with a septorhinoplasty in the summer to deal with nose issues too.

Anyway, questions I have include:
- good sources for recipies and techniques for liquid diets
- things that make the recovery go smoother,
- any other encouraging words or advice

I've gotten a lot of good stuff from the forum. Thanks for that. I'll contribute my $0.02 worth after I have the surgery.
