Definitely put together a post ! It goes to show that the MMA procedure is highly individualized and dependent on many variables (including bothsurgeon and patient factors). So while our posts are helpful, no two experiences will ever be exactly alike.

The rapid turn-over, overnight stay experience is very similar to the way one surgeon performs the MMA here in Seattle. There are advantages to doing it that way, and disadvantages. The average length of stay is 2-3 days in the hospital with an overnight in the CCU to watch for bleeding and airway swelling.

The good part is that you are home quicker and it is cheaper on the hospital bill. The downside is that maximal swelling physiologically occurs at 48-72 hours, so you aren't really being monitored for that by an overnight stay. Second, most people I've talked to weren't too happy about being "scooted" out the door the next day (but that could've been the isolated experience here in Seattle) and felt under-educated and poorly served.

I think your posts will illustrate the variety of our peri-op recovery patterns, which will be useful to others coming down the pike.

Good to see you here on the other side,

Bill
