Solid and constructive insurance advice.

I had to do the same deal after my insurance company declined me post-op...in a very similar fashion. The only thing I did different was insist that I be covered as "in-network" due to the lack of in-network options for an MMA. I documented this with a letter from my in-network ENT surgeon who also refered me to Stanford knowing that MMAs weren't performed here on her staff. This actually worked well.

Do plan on low-brain power activities post-op...with frequent excursions to avoid being stir crazy. I was surprised by three things post-op...my lack of ability to concentrate or focus on tasks for a few weeks, the sensation of serving a home-confinement sentence if I didn't have an outing planned, and the "blues" or mild depression after a few weeks of not returning to normal activity.
