Posted by sickntired on December 28, 2005 at 16:02:17:I am a 24 year old male who is not overweight. I have dealt with "apnea" since I was probably about 17. I have had my tonsils and uvula removed (not UPPP), tried two TAP devices had turbinate reduction and currently wear a full mask CPAP for the past few months.
My sleep study said I had hypopnea where my oxygen levels went as low as 88%. I don't feel like I'm waking myself up from blockage in my throat but I am told I snore very loud. I can feel semi-obstruction in my throat from either my soft palate and tongue or base of tongue or combo as soon as I lay down on my back. I fell like I also have some obstruction on my side but not as bad (sleep study agrees).
I was wondering if anyone else has this problem. What would be the best solution? I have a recessed jaw that was pushed back because of braces (long story). I'm afraid MMA will be to difficult to get covered with insurance and I'm afraid to have UPPP for fear of becoming hypo-nasal.
Does anyone else have suggestions? Somnoplasty on the base of the tongue? Can that be done in one procedure under general anesthetic? What about the pillar procedure for mild cases? Anyone?
