Thunder Bay,
If you have a TAP dental device, you will turn the key to the left(counter-clockwise) to advance.
A half-turn(180 degrees)is 1/3mm of advancement.Take your advancements slowly. Try advancing a half-turn every three nights. This will give you a mm of advancement every 9 nights. If you feel soreness in your teeth or jaws during the day, then go back to a previous setting where you were comfortable. The key is to advance slowly allowing your jaws time to get used to the advancement.
When you take it out in the morning remember to stretch your jaws by opening your mouth fully then close your mouth while setting your teeth back into their correct position. If your jaw is tight, this may take a few times. Another thing to do is clench your teeth together to set your bite. Clench for 5-10 seconds, relax, open, close, set, clench......
I'm at 6mm of advancement. It took me a couple months to get there, so be patient.
Good Luck,
SunnyTime
