Humming loudly while asleep

Posted by eyeswideopen on May 04, 2006 at 00:27:28:

Hi everyone, thanks very much for your help in the past. I am currently looking into going to Stanford to see Dr K L about my sleep apnea. As I've said before I suffered burns to the back of my throat during a somnoplasty operation to cure primary snoring and that has turned me into a sleep apnea person. I had UPPP done using coblation which has only made things much worse. I wake up at 4am every morning snoring or snorting very loudly and ofter before that and can't get back to sleep again. I've been told I have upper airway resistance syndrome. In a post earlier someone said that MMA may not help with this but it does help apnea. Can someone explain this? Also last night I used a mandibular advancement device and woke up humming not snoring but just very loud humming coming from deep in my throat. Has anyone else experienced this?I'm worried I may have some nerve damage caused by the somnoplasty and other procedure that has damaged my voice box. I have been told I have a very small nasopharyngeal opening and obstruction to the tongue base. Multi segmental collapse they called it. I had none of this prior to the somnoplasty and was just a social snorer. Anyone heard of nerve damage caused by buring back of throat and tongue. I did have severe pain down both sides of my neck after the somnoplasty. Does anyone know if an MMA could cure this? I am not compliant with CPAP as am a very light sleeper and can't go on like this. Also very frightened of MMA but I hope that it will work. Many thanks to all of you who have answered my posts before.
