I was curious so I googled GBAT.
There isn't a lot of information, but it appears to be a variant on genioglossus advancement (GA). It is a device of some sort that is inserted to pull the genioglossus muscle forward.
It looks as though there was a lot of interest in 2003, but I have not seen any newer articles.
Your recessed chin will probably disappear, but I think you'll be OK with that. You don't have to worry about looking like a monkey - with 70 of these a year, this surgeon knows correct facial proportions.
I think a lot of people worry too much about appearance changing for the worse. If you have a receding chin, it's NOT what is considered conventionally beautiful. Plus, as in my own case, the receding chin may heighten your apparent nose size. After surgery, these issues are lessened or gone entirely.
I myself had a beard for 30 years, partly to soften the effect of a receding chin. I was required to shave before surgery, and kept the beard off because the chin and jawline is so much stronger. I'm not sure I'll ever go back (although I detest shaving).
