My airway was about as narrow as you can get, 5mm when standing (about the size of a pencil). I never had the UPPP as it is defined but I had tonsil and adenoids out when I was 2 years old (doc also slipped and removed most of the uvula); might be why I don't snore. Never developed the sleep problems until late 80s early 90s. I had a somno of the tongue almost 3 years before the MMA, did nothing for the apnea. Had hyoid suspension about a year and half before MMA and had the GA about 11 months before. No effect on the apnea but did help to raise the night time desaturation a little. I started dreaming the night of the surgery, first time in many years. I really didn't notice when the better breathing started, it was something that I just realized I was doing. I know the first couple of days that I was congested but didn't wake during the night choking nor did I have to sit up to get normal breathing started.
