It's that whole causality thing again. It's an association...but not necessarily a cause.
Pts who had glaucoma had severe sleep apnea. Intersting...but so what ?
These pts. could've had other factors in common that lead to both conditions ! On the other hand, there might be a remote common link where chronic severe OSA can accelerate certain disease states (glaucoma may be one of them). This paper will be valuable only in that it'll provide another screening indication for OSA. For a direct causal correlation, I'd wait for more definitive animal model studies, etc...which will be very difficult to do.
I had severe OSA. Pretty durn bad in fact. And my anterior chamber pressures were lower than normal, and visual field acuity were normal. So, negative for glaucoma. It'd be interesting to hear from other OSA folks who are young(er) and thin to see what their eye exams were like. On the otherhand, if I let my OSA run rampant for many years, my eye exam could've gotten worse.
